Numerous yachts were hurled ashore and steel beams were ripped off of the Providence River Bridge, resulting in total damages of $3.1 million (2015 USD). One death occured when a 7 year old girl was hit in the head by a beam from the Providence River Bridge and passed away despite hours of brain surgery, similar to how hockey fan Brittanie Cecil died.
EF4 Worcester Worcester 1155 15 mi (24 km) 5 deaths - A tornado extremely similar to the 1953 Worcester tornado tracked through northern Worcester. $600 million (2015 USD) in losses occured from whole neighborhoods being decimated and the exterior of the Assumption College being stripped off the structure. Thousands of people became homeless after the storms, resulting in martial law being declared for Worcester. Many emergency services were provided for the tornado victims and recovery efforts lasted for up to two years after the freak event. Citizens who had survived the 1953 tornado claimed this one to be much worse. However, due to adequate tornado warnings being issued and the declaration of a tornado emergency by the National Weather Service (NWS), only five fatalities were reported, all from a family who did not heed the warnings.
